Dallas Love Field vs. DFW: Which Airport Should Your Executive Fly Into?
For most trips into central Dallas, Love Field is the shorter, simpler arrival. For international travel, connections, west-side meetings and nonstop reach, DFW is the better choice. The right answer depends less on the airport than on where the executive needs to be an hour after landing.
Executive assistants booking visitors ask us this often. Here is how we think it through.
The short answer
Choose Love Field when the destination is Downtown, Uptown, Highland Park, University Park, Preston Hollow, the Medical District or Dallas Market Center, and the executive is flying domestically.
Choose DFW when the trip is international, involves a connection, ends in Las Colinas, Irving, Grapevine, Southlake, Arlington or Fort Worth, or needs a nonstop that Love Field does not offer.
Consider a private aviation arrival at Love Field or Addison when the schedule, privacy or group size justifies it.
What makes the two airports different
Size and reach
DFW is one of the largest airports in the world. By its own fast facts, updated September 2026, it covers more than 26.9 square miles, has five terminals and more than 160 gates, and offers 193 domestic and 77 international nonstop destinations. It is American Airlines’ primary hub.
Love Field is a single terminal a few miles northwest of downtown, and it is Southwest Airlines’ home airport. Its size is fixed by law. The Wright Amendment Reform Act of 2006 caps passenger service at 20 gates and bars scheduled international nonstop flights. An executive arriving from London or Mexico City will come through DFW or another gateway, not Love Field.
What that means on arrival
The walk from gate to car is shorter at Love Field, and there is only one terminal to navigate. At DFW, the arrival terminal, baggage claim and customs timing all change the real pickup time. That is why our DFW airport chauffeur service reviews the terminal, checked bags and whether the flight is international before dispatch.
Match the airport to the destination
Drive times in North Texas swing widely with the hour, the weather and local events, so we quote them per trip rather than promise a number. The geography, though, is consistent:

For the north suburbs, the deciding factor is usually the flight itself. If Southwest has a convenient nonstop, Love Field often wins. If the executive flies American, DFW is the natural fit. Our guides to Frisco executive car service and Plano executive car service cover those corridors in more detail.
Where your chauffeur meets the passenger
This is the part assistants most often get wrong, because each airport handles prearranged cars differently.
At Love Field
Love Field moved its pickup area for rideshares, taxis and limousines off the terminal curb, and the location has changed more than once in recent years. The airport’s A–Z guide currently points travelers to the valet pavilion and Garage C. Some older airport pages still describe the previous location, so we confirm the exact meeting point in the chauffeur details we send before pickup.
For visitors who don’t know the airport, our Love Field car service offers meet-and-greet near baggage claim on request, with a name sign and help with bags.
At DFW
At DFW, you can choose between a baggage-claim meet-and-greet and a curbside pickup. The right choice depends on how well the traveler knows DFW, how much luggage they have and how important the arrival is. We compare both in meet-and-greet vs. curbside pickup at DFW.
The private aviation option
Love Field is also a major general aviation airport. It has four full-service FBOs: Signature Flight Support, Atlantic Aviation, Jet Aviation and Business Jet. For a CEO or board member flying private, an FBO arrival at Love Field puts them minutes from Uptown and the Park Cities.
Private arrivals need different details: the FBO name, the tail number and an updated arrival time from the flight department. Our private aviation transportation page lists what to send.
What to put in the reservation, by airport
Whichever airport you choose, these details prevent most problems:
Both airports: passenger name and mobile number, airline and flight number, checked-bag count, final destination, and an assistant or host contact.
DFW: whether the flight is international, and your preference for meet-and-greet or curbside.
Love Field: whether the passenger wants meet-and-greet, since the garage pickup is a short walk.
Private aviation: FBO name, tail number and the flight department’s contact.
Our executive assistant travel resources cover reservations for delegated travel in more depth.
A note on split itineraries
Some executives land at one airport and depart from the other, often arriving on American at DFW and leaving on Southwest from Love Field. That works well with a dedicated chauffeur. It goes wrong when the return car is booked for the wrong airport. When the itinerary splits, list both airports and both flight numbers on the reservation so dispatch can plan each leg.
For companies with visitors every month, a corporate transportation account keeps passenger details, billing and airport preferences on file, so each booking takes minutes.
